Pronomi personali soggetto

Iio
youtu
heegli
sheella
itesso (neutro, inanimato o impersonale)
wenoi
youvoi

It isn't clear how you'll come back.
Non e' chiaro come tornerai.

I pronomi personali complemento

me
you
him
her
it
us
you
them

We love you
They are with me

Il complemetno it e' usato sempre con i seguenti verbi se poi seguiti da un aggettivo: to believe, to consider, to find, to judge, to make, to think, l'esempio seguente vi fara' capire il perche':

I find it difficult to concentrate with the radio on.
Trovo difficile concentrarmi con la radio accesa.

I pronomi riflessivi e reciproci

to enjoy oneself

oneselfse stesso

Esistono inoltre i pronomi riflessivi reciproci che indicano relazioni:

each othersolo fra 2 persone
one anotherfra piu' persone

esempi:

Elisa and Chris phone each other every day.
Soldiers always help one another.

infinito negativonot to + forma base del verbo
Essere o non essere
To be or not to be

I am here to see Marco

Short answer (risposta breve)

affermativayes, + pronome personale soggetto + ausiliare
negativano, + pronome personale soggetto + ausiliare + not
Are you English? Yes, I am. / No, I'm not.
Is there a an over there? Yes, there is. / No, there isn't.

I want one car, not two.
  • in correlazione con another o others:
Only one of his sons in a thief, the others are clerks.
  • Con le parloe ''morning, afternoon, evening, night, day:
One morning, when I woke up, I realized that I hadn't any money left.

I have got a lot of photos, but the ones I prefer were taken in Italy.

Of those car, I prefer the blue one.

L'aggettivo

a good friend / good friends
an elegant man / an elegant woman

this = questo, questathat= quello, quel, quella
these = questi, questethose= quei/quegli, quelli/quelle

Frasi affermativeOfferte / RichiesteFrasi negative / Dubitative / Interrogative
Aggettivisome / a little / a fewsome / a little / a fewany / not any / no
Pronomisome (of) / a little (of) / a few (of)some (of) / a little (of) / a few (of)not any / none

Here my biscuits, would you like some?
Can you give me some of that cake, please?
There are some pillows on my bed.
A little sugar in your tea?
  • A few e' sempre al plurale (qualche):
There are a few pens on my desktop.
  • Any e' usato nelle frasi dubitative:
Is there any parsley? I don't know if there is any.
  • No e' usato per dire che non c'e':
There is no fishes in this lake.
  • None e' usato solo come pronome:
None of us can spleep so long!

I pronomi indefiniti composti

 SOMEANYNOEVERY
Personesomeone / somebodyanyone / anybodyno one / nobodyeveryone / everybody
Cosesomethinganythingnothingeverything
Luogosomewhereanywherenowhereeverywhere

Is this anybody's glass?

school - schools
teacher - teachers
I sostantivi terminanti in s, ss, ch, sh, x,z,o formao il plurale aggiungendo la desinenza "es":
bus - buses
glass - glasses
church - churches
brush - brushes
box - boxes
buzz - buzzes
potato - potatoes
Le parole teminanti in y preceduta da consonante formano il plurale in "ies" e la y scompare:
baby - babies
lady - ladies
I seguenti sostantivi terminanti in f, fe formano il plurale in "ves":
half -halves
knife - knives
leaf - leaves
life - lives
loaf - loaves
self - selves
shelf - shelves
thief - thieves
wife - wives
wolf - wolves

Alcuni sostantivi cambiano al plurale, esempio:
child - children
foot - feet
man - men
mouse - mice
tooth - teeth

    two B's
    three E's
    * le abbreviazioni:
    four MP's
    the UFO's
    * i numeri cardinali con funzione di sostantivo scritti in cifre:

accomodationalloggio

I numeri

I numeri cardinali

0 - nought
1 - one
2 - two

4 - four
5 - five
6 - six
7 - seven
8 - eight
9 - nine

60 - sixty
70 - seventy
80 - eighty
90 - ninety
100 - one hundred
1000 - one thousand
1000000 - one million

I numeri ordinali

ItalianoInglese

3rdthe third
4ththe fourth
5ththe fifth
6ththe sixth
7ththe seventh
8ththe eighth
9ththe ninth
10°10ththe tenth

Come vedete, a parte i primi tre (e i loro composti, come :21st, 22nd, 23rd, 31st,...41st,... 51st,52nd,53rd...), tutti i numeri si scrivono aggiungendo le lettere 'th dopo il numero, e si leggono a voce sempre con l'articolo the davanti. Quando si scrivono a lettere l'articolo the va' sempre anteposto.

Simple present (presente)

 AffermativoNegativo
I /you/we/you/theystartdo not start /don't start
he/she/itstartsdoes not start / doesn't start
Interrogativa /Interrogativa negativa
Do / Don'tI/ you/we/you/theystart?
Does /Doesn'the/she/itstart?

Who.../What... (chi/cosa)

Quando i pronomi interrogativi who e what fungono da soggetto, la frase rifiuta l'ausiliare do; pero' se la domanda e di tipo interrogativo-negativo c'e' di nuovo bisogno del do per fare la negazione:

Who teaches English to your class?
Chi insegna inglese nella tua classe?
Who doesn't speak English here?
Chi non parla inglese qui?
Who never does his homework?
Chi non fa mai i compiti?

Posizione del complemento oggetto e del complemento indiretto

Molti verbi in inglese (to bring, to buy, to teach, to teel, ecc.) quando sono seguiti da un complemento indiretto e da un complemento oggetto, ammettono due forme:

soggetto + verbo + complemento indiretto + complemento oggetto
soggetto + verbo + complemento oggetto + to / for + complemento indiretto
Vogliamo comprarle una penna
We want to buy her a pen
We want to buy a pen for her

Alcuni verbi ammettono solo la seconda costruzione (e solo con to ), ecco i puu' usati:
to confess, to deliver, to describe, to dictate, to explain, to introduce, to reply, to report, to say

Chiedere l'ora

  • What's the time please?
  • What time is it, please?

E si risponde con It's ...

2.00
two o'clock
2.05
five past two
2.08
eight minutes past two
2.15
a quarter past two
2.30
half past two
2.35
twenty-five to three
2.45
a quarter to three
2.48
twelve minutes to three

(post meridiem).

It's six p.m.

At what time do you usally get up?
A che ora di solito ti svegli?
I get up at 7 o'clock.
Io mi alzo alle sette.
He works from nine a.m. to five p.m.

Participio presente /Gerundio

In inglese sia il participio presente che il gerundio si formano aggiungendo il suffisso in -ing all'infinito senza to:

InfinitoGerundio/Participio passato
to gogoing
to watchwatching
    to come - coming
    to phone - phoning
    to try - trying
    to play - playing
    to stop - stopping
    to get - getting
    to bow - bowing
    to box - boxing
    to prefer - preferring
    to begin - beginning
    to travel - travelling
    to quarrel - quarrelling
    to die - dying
    to lie - lying
    to mimic - mimicking
    to picnic - picnicking

Present continuos

Affermativo / Negativo
Iam / 'm notworking
youare / aren'tworking
he/she/itis / isn'tworking
weare / aren'tworking
youare / aren'tworking
theyare / aren'tworking
Interrogativo / Interrogativo negativo
AmI / I notworking
Are / Aren'tyouworking
Is / Isn'the / she / itworking
Are / Aren'tweworking
Are/ Aren'tyouworking
Are / Aren'ttheyworking

Esempi:

  • Azione in fase di svolgimento.
John is playing in the garden
John sta giocando in guardino
Geroge is watching TV at the moment
  • azione futura programmata:
I'm leaving for France tomorrow
Parto per la Francia domani
Are you going to the cinema tonight?
Vai al cinema stasera?
  • disapprovazione
He's always complaining about cooking
Si lamenta sempre della mia cucina.
You're always staring at people
Fissi sempre la gente.

Modal verbs

  • i verbi che seguono sono all'infinito senza to

Ecco i principali:

  • can
  • may
  • shall
  • must
  • will

Can / May

I / you / he / she / it / we / theycan / cannot / can'tswim

Il verbo can si usa:

  • per esprimere possibilita', capacita', essere in grado:

  • Richieste informali:
Can I use the phone, please?
Posso usare il telefono, per favore?
  • per dare o rifiutere un premesso:

Non puoi uscire stasera.

Come can si usa may, solo nelle seguenti condizioni:

  • per indicare una probabilita':
He may not come.
Puo' darsi che non venga
  • nelle richieste formali:
May I somke here sir? Yes, of course
You may come whenever you like
Puoi venire qando vuoi.

Must / Shall

It must be midday, it's very hot.

  • proposte o suggerimenti
Shall we stay or shall we go home?
  • offrirsi di fare qualcosa
    Shall I open the window?
  • chiedere un parere o un consiglio in modo formale
    What shall I do?

You shouldn't be so rude with him.
Non dovresti essere cosi' socrtese con lui.

Al passato si forma aggiungendo have:

You should have helped your mother.
Avresti dovuto aiutare la mamma.

To have to

Did you have to carry your suitcaes by yourself?
Hai dovuto portarti da solo le valigie?

To need

He needn't leave at once.
Non e' necessario che parta immediatamente.

You needn't tell Max about it.

To be

I am to meet Jake at 15:55.
Devo incontrarmi con Jake alle 15:55.

Nobody is to leave the room before the police come.

I was to have taken part in that mission, but my plane never started.

let + complemento oggetto + infinito senza to
me
lethim / her / itgo out!
us ('s)
them

Go out!
Esci! / Uscite! / Esca!
Sit down!
Siediti! / Sedetevi! / Si sieda!

La forma negativa usa sempre l'ausiliare "don't":

Don't go out!

To have (avere)

Affermativa / Negativa
Ihave ('ve) / have not (haven't)
youhave ('ve) / have not (haven't)
he / she / ithas ('s) / has not (hasn't)got
wehave ('ve) / have not (haven't)
youhave ('ve) / have not (haven't)
theyhave ('ve) / have not (haven't)
Interrogativa / Interrogativa-negativa
Have / Haven'tI
Have / Haven'tyou
Has / Hasn'the / she / itgot?
Have / Haven'twe
Have / Haven'tyou
Have / Haven'tthem

Usi particolari

to havebreakfastfare colazione
to havelunchpranzare
to havedinner/suppercenare
to havea snackfare uno spuntino
to havea picnicfare un picnic
to havetea/coffe/a drink/ a cokeprendere il te/caffe/bibita/coca cola
to havea bath/a showerfare il bagno, una doccia
to havea swimfare una nuotata
to havea napfare un sonnellino
to havea restriposare
to havea chatfare una chiaccherata
to havea walk/ a strollfare una passeggiata
to havea ride on a horse/bycicle/scooterfara una cavalcata/ un giro in bicicletta/ un giro in motorino
to havefun/ a good timedivertirsi

In questi casi il verbo to have perde la sua funzione di ausiliare, quindi come tutti i verbi normali ha bisogno di un ausiliare anch'esso:

Does your father usually breakfast with you?
No, he always has breakfast before I get up.
Where's Mum?
She is having a shower.

at
  • con le ore: at 7 o'clock
  • per indicare momenti precisi: At this time, At the end of the month
  • per festivita': at Christmas
in
ATTENZIONE : fa eccezione at night 2
on
on April 10th, on Sunday, on Christmas day
for
E' l'equivalente dell'italiano per, indica durata: for two days / a wek / a year
in
E' usato per indicare un avvenimento che succedera' fra poco, somiglia all'italiano fra: in a short time
by
within
Entro un periodo generico: within a week

Posessive case (genitivo sassone)

possessore + 's + cosa posseduta (senza articolo)

My friend' new car is a Ferrari
That old lady's suitcase is very heavy

James' bike is new

Those students' book are very useful.

Jack and Tim's parent are nice
Jack's and Tim's parent are nice

I'm going to John's (house)
We are going to the grocer's (shop)
They are in St. Peter's (church)

a friend of my father's
one of my father's friend

  • Si mettono dopo i verbi modali e ausiliari
You're usually sad when talk to her
You would never go away!

Do you ever eat pasta?
Hai mai mangiato pasta?
No, I never eat pasta.
No non l'ho mai mangiata

What's the date today?
What date is today.

It's Thursday, May 12th.

Ricordarsi che 12th si legge the twelfth.

Usi particolari di How

I
you
he/she/it
we
you
they
finished

Come le forme interrogative del presente usano il verbo ausiliare "Do", le forme interrogative del passato usano il Did:

DidI
you
he/she/it
we
you
they
finish?

I
you
he/she/it
we
you
they
did not finish / didn't finish
Didn'tI
you
he/she/it
we
you
they
finish?

stop-stopped
  • Cambiare la y finale, se preceduta da consonante, in i:
study-studied
panic-panicked

Il verbo avere (to have) e' l'unico verbo irregolare a non usare l'ausiliare "did" (anche se in america, alcune volte, lo usano erroneamente):

Had you good luck yesterday?
I hadn't ever a car.
Hadn't you enough money last moth?

Verbi irregolari

In questa pagina trovate i piu' comuni verbi irregolari

Il verbo essere

Il verbo essere (to be) e' irregolare, percio' va studiato a memoria:

Negativo
Iwas not / wasn't

Interrogativo negativo

Last week I saw Henry in the park, he was playing soccer.
He was leaving the following day. (stava per partire il giorno seguente)
  • Disapprovazione su qualcosa nel passato:
Mike was always playing the PS2!

Il futuro (the future)

I
you
he / she/ it
we
you
they
will / 'llgo
I will run take the bus tomorrow.
You'll never change!

Il futuro si usa anche:

  • dopo i verbi di opinione, supposizione, speranza (to thik, to suppose, to hope,...):
I hope you'll be all right
    Spero che tu starai/stia bene
  • Nel periodo ipotetico di primo tipo:
If you buy this car, you'll take th bus no more.

soggettowill beverbo+ing

esempi:

At this time next week, you'll play your first soccer match
He'll be talking about movies all this night

Futuro intenzionale (be going to)

I am
you are
he/she/it is
we are
you are
they are
goingto sing
What are you going to do after your degree?
I'm going to run.
Sto per correre

Future perfect

AffermativaSoggettowillhavepaticipio passato
NegativaSoggettowill not / won'thavepaticipio passato
InterrogativaWillsoggettohavepaticipio passato
Interrogativa-negativaWon'tsoggettohavepaticipio passato
You'll have finished your painting by seven tomorrow

soggettowill have beenforma in -ing

Esempio:

Tomorrow I'll be in Rome, while you'll have been sleeping for 6 hours.
Domani saro' a Roma, mentre tu avrai dormito per 6 ore.

Nota: Il futuro in frasi subordinate

Al contrario dell'italiano, quando si usano i termini come: when, as soon as, as long as, the next time, till/untill, after, before; si usa solo la prima frase al futuro, la seconda si usa al presente, ma si intede contemporanea alla precedente:

He won't be at home when you come back from work

Il gerundio si usa sempre dopo le preposizioni: after, before, besides, instead of, without.

Besides being rich, she is also very pretty.

  • to be afraid of
  • to be fond of
  • to be keen on
  • to be tired of
  • to be used to (essere solito)
  • to get used to (abituarsi)
  • to apologize for
  • to go on
  • to insist on
  • to look forward to (non vedere l'ora di)
  • to succed in
  • to thank for
  • to think of
  • to fell like (aver voglia)
I'm tired of repeating everytime the same things

To say/to tell

Benche' sia to say che to tell abbiano lo stesso significato, sono utilizzati in ambiti differenti.

Il verbo to say e' usato per:

  • il discorso diretto
She said:"I love you!"
  • il discorso indiretto
She said she loved me.

We told him to go home and talk her.
Your grandfather told us a lot of beautifull tales.

soggeto + present perfect + compl. oggetto + since+ data

I have known Max since 1978.

soggeto + past perfect + compl. oggetto + since+ data

I had known Max since 1978.

soggeto + present perfect continuos + compl. oggetto + for+ durata

I have been travelling for 2 hours.

soggeto + past perfect continuos + compl. oggetto + for+ durata

I had been travelling for 2 hours.

Stavo viaggiando da 2 ore.

Per la forma interrogativa si usa How long:

How long have you been singing professionally?

Mario hasn't written to me since October.
Mario non mi scrive da Ottobre.

You haven't been walking for long; you can't be tired!

He left 2 hours ago.
E' partitoda 2 ore.

In italiano noi diciamo:

if clausemain clause
if + simple presentfuture simple

Esempio:

If he comes, he'll meet Maria.
Se verra', incontrera' Maria.

Al posto di if si puo' usare when:

When you heat a metal bar, it'll expand

When you heat a metal bar, it expands

Se si una un modal verb (can, may, must, shall, will) nella main clause, essa puo' essere al presente:

If you see her, you can meet also Anna.

If you are looking for your hat you'll find it in the hall.

If you've finished the leter I'll post it for you.

if clausemain clause
if + simple pastcondizionale

Esempi:

If I were rich I'd buy a Ferrari.

if clausemain clause
if + past perfectperfect conditional

Esempi:

If she had come, she would have met Mike.
Se fosse venuta, avrebbe potuto conoscere Mike

Volere

To want / to like

In inglese per esprimere desiderio o volonta' si usano to want o to like. Generalmente to like e' usato al condizionale, mentre to want e' usato in tutti gli altri tempi, esempi:

I want to leave early tomorrow.
Voglio partire presto domani
Why don't you want to do it?
Perche' non vuoi farlo?
Would you like a cup of tea?
Vorresti un tazza di te'?
I'd have liked to see that museum
Avrei voluto vedere quel museo

To like e' comunemente usato dopo le congiunzioni as, if, what(ever), where(ver), gemeralmente omettendo to; esempi:

You can come whenever you like.
Puoi venire quando vuoi.
She seldom behaved as she liked.

Why didi you come if you didn't want to?

SOGGETTO + VERBO + COMPLEMENTO OGGETTO + INFINITO

Esempi:

I want Jimmy to be more precise in his drawings.
I'd like her not to touch my flowers
Vorrei che non toccasse i miei fiori

To wish

La costruzione e' la seguente:

SOGGETTO + VERBO + SOGGETTO / INFINITO

SOGGETTO + WISH + SOGGETTO + SIMPLE PAST

I wish it were not raining.
Vorrei che non stesse piovendo.

Per esprimere rammarico, cosi':

SOGGETTOWISHSOGGETOPAST PERFECT
   COULD HAVEPARTICIPIO PASSATO

I wish I could have loved you more.
Vorrei averti amato di piu'.

Esiste anche la forma equivalente a to like al presente:

SOGGETO + WISH + SOGGETTO + WOULD + INFINITO SENZA TO

I wish he would not make such a noise.
Vorrei che non facesse cosi' rumore.

Reported speech (discorso indiretto)

Esempi in italiano:
